Today we had the amazing opportunity for direct outreach to the people affected by the earthquakes (los terremotos). Many people who once lived in apartments were relocated when their homes were no longer safe to live in. The government established a makeshift village in a nearby field that is now a smattering of plywood houses, covered in plastic, and navigated by narrow, muddy rows. The people here were very receptive and happily accepted our invitations to both play in a soccer/basketball tournament and pray for their needs. Each of us had personal interactions and it was very rewarding. We returned to the same village after lunch and played sports, danced, and conversed with many. Jorge surprised us all with his rapping skills, and we dominated in basketball, but lost miserably in futbol.
Towards the end of the evening, much of the village gathered to hear testimonies from our crew and view a skit. I nearly cried when a few of our own performed the skit to Lifehouse's "Everything" and I know it really spoke to everyone's heart as well. I learned about many tearjerking and inspiring experiences and hope that we truly conveyed our compassion and determination to impact the people of Chile through the holy spirit. Tomorrow morning we send Derek back to the states and extended prayers for safe travel would be appreciated. We love you and cannot wait to tell you every detail!
